Radioactive:
A substance undergoing nuclear change which gives off energy in the form of
alpha, beta or gamma rays. Radioactive materials can be very toxic depending
on the amount and kind of energy being given off. Amounts of radioactivity
are usually expressed in units of activity, the rate of decay. This unit is
called a CURIE (Ci) and is equal to 3.73 X 1010 disintegration's per second.
Radioactive materials are classified as POISON D by the Department of
Transportation.
